Relatives Visas

​This visa is for someone who needs to live in Australia to:

  • care for a relative in Australia with a long-term or permanent medical condition, or
  • assist a relative providing care to a member of their family with a long-term or permanent medical conditions.
There can be waiting times of up to 5 years for this visa.

Eligibility

You must be willing to provide, or help provide, care to your relative.

Your relative:

  • have been assessed as needing care or have arranged an assessment with a designated health service provider
  • not be able to get the care they need from another source in Australia
  • be an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen.

​This visa allows some older people to live in Australia if they rely on an eligible relative in Australia to provide financial support.​

There can be waiting times of up to 50 years for this visa.

Eligibility

  • be dependent on the relative in Australia
  • be single
  • be old enough to receive the Australian aged pension
  • have someone who will provide an assurance of support.

This visa allows someone to live in Australia if their only near relatives are living in Australia.​

There can be waiting times of up to 50 years for this visa.

Eligibility

  • Your and your partner’s relatives in Australia must be your only near relatives.
  • You must have someone who will provide an assurance of support.

This visa allows a family member of a New Zealand citizen to live and work in Australia for up to five years.

Eligibility

  • not be a New Zealand citizen
  • be an eligible family member of a New Zealand citizen
